Ready2Work: Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Ready2Work KY Programme?

The Ready2Work KY Programme is an employment initiative designed to prepare Caymanians for employment by providing practical training, work readiness skills, and supported work experience with local employers. Ready2Work KY is government-funded, so there is no cost to participate.

Who delivers the Ready2Work KY Programme?

The programme is delivered through a partnership between the Cayman Islands Government and approved training providers, in collaboration with participating employers across various industries.

What is the aim of the programme?

The aim of Ready2Work KY is to improve employability, build confidence, and help participants gain the skills and experience needed to secure and sustain meaningful employment in the Cayman Islands.

Who is eligible to apply?

Applicants must:

  • Be a Caymanian (17 years of age and older)
  • Be unemployed, underemployed, or seeking to improve employability
  • Be committed to completing the full programme, including training and work placement

Can recent school leavers apply?

Yes. The programme is suitable for recent school leavers who are not currently in full-time education and are seeking entry into the workforce.

What does the Ready2Work KY Programme include?

Ready2Work will provide support and services to assist Caymanians in accessing long-term employment. The programme will provide soft skills training and development designed to address barriers to employment as identified by employers and job seekers, interview skills training, and other training and development based on the unique needs of participants.

For participants, benefits include:

  • Learning and developing a better work ethic, and improving skills and competencies that meet the specific needs of the employer
  • On-the-job training and occupation-focused education
  • Better occupational, personal and job-specific skills
  • A clearer idea of what kind of job suits you
  • A chance to impress potential employers
  • A stipend
  • Access to childcare at an approved Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) Centre
  • Career advancement

How long does the programme last?

The duration may vary by cohort but typically lasts 8-12 weeks, including both training and work placement components.

Is the programme full-time?

The Ready2Work programme is full-time, five (5) days a week, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. 

Will I receive support during the programme?

Yes. Participants are supported throughout the programme by programme coordinators, who provide guidance, feedback, and assistance as needed.

Can I choose my work placement?

Participants are encouraged to share their preferred area of work. Placements are based on meeting programme requirements and performance indicators, as well as the availability and suitability of opportunities. If a suitable placement is not immediately available in a participant’s preferred area, the training provider and programme coordinator will continue working with them to identify an appropriate opportunity.

Does the work placement guarantee a job?

No. While the programme does not guarantee employment, many participants gain valuable experience, references, and in some cases are offered employment by their host employer.

Will I be paid during the programme?

Participants receive a stipend, subject to programme guidelines and programme deductions. Details are provided before programme commencement.

How do I apply?

Applications are submitted through the designated Government portal at https://moescholarships.gov.ky/. Applicants must complete the application form and will be required to attend an interview.

Is there an application deadline?

Yes. Deadlines vary by cohort and are advertised in advance. Late applications are not accepted.

What documents are required?

Applicants are required to provide:

  • Recent photo ID
  • Birth certificate
  • Proof of right to be Caymanian
  • Resume
  • WORC Registration Status

What are the attendance requirements?

Participants are expected to attend all training sessions and work placement days, arrive on time, and notify the programme team of any absences in advance.

What happens if I withdraw or am dismissed?

Failure to comply with programme requirements may result in removal from the programme.
